Police Officer Injured On The Job
Injuries Leave Police Officer Unable To Perform Duty
A police officer, was injured on the job after pulling over an operator of a motor vehicle. While attempting to remove the operative from his vehicle, the operator put the vehicle into gear with the officer half in and half out of the vehicle and proceeded to drive at an accelerated speed for 1.8 miles before crashing into a light pole.
The officer injured his neck, upper and lower back and was given muscle relaxers and pain medication at the ER. He then began a course of treatment for his injuries. It was also suggested that he see a psychologist. When finished with chiropractic and physical therapy he was discharged and allowed to return to work without restrictions. Yet, shortly after return he began to experience intense psychological distress. As a result, he began counseling and was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. He was not able to return to work and remained out of work until he was granted disability. After collecting the full amount of the policy Attorney Raipher D. Pellegrino made a claim for underinsured benefits under our client's insurance policy. The claim was denied and the matter went to arbitration resulting in a substantial award for our client in addition to the disability retirement benefits Attorney Raipher D. Pellegrino secured for our client.
The client is unable to work in the field of law enforcement and is not expected to return. He has incurred a loss of earnings capacity, marital problems and other issues directly and proximately related to the incident.
